A reload bonus at a sportsbook is a deposit match paid to an account that already exists: the book adds a percentage of a new deposit, usually as Bonus Bets, up to a cap, and then attaches a rollover before any cash can leave. Its real value sits in five terms (match rate, cap, playthrough, odds limits and expiry), not in the headline percentage. One published example, read line by line below, shows a $200 bonus that asks for $4,400 in cash wagers first.
The casino-side version of this offer, with its own wagering math, is covered in the almanac's casino reload bonus breakdown. This entry stays with the sportsbook build.
How a sportsbook reload bonus is built
Every reload offer is a bundle of the same parts. Read them in this order before opting in.
| Term | What it sets | Published example (as of October 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Match rate | Bonus as a share of the deposit | 10% daily match at Prime Sportsbook |
| Cap | Largest bonus per deposit | $200 in Bonus Bets on a $2,000 deposit |
| Playthrough | Cash wagering before withdrawal | 2x deposit plus bonus, so $4,400 |
| Odds limit | Which prices the bonus can be used on | +200 or shorter, straight wagers only |
| Expiry | How long Bonus Bets last | 7 days after award at Caesars, unless stated otherwise |
| Payout | What a winning Bonus Bet returns | Winnings only, the stake does not come back |
Prime Sportsbook's help page lists a daily reload paid in Bonus Bets, with a 10% match, a cap of $200 per deposit and an offer window from Aug 1 to Dec 31, 2026 (as of October 2026). The cap and the match rate together fix the deposit that earns the full bonus: $2,000.
The rollover is the real price
The playthrough decides what the bonus costs, and on this structure it is charged on the deposit as well as the bonus. Prime's terms set the rollover at 2x deposit plus bonus, which means a $2,000 deposit with the full $200 bonus requires $4,400 in cash wagers before a withdrawal request (as of October 2026).
Three counting rules make that figure harder to reach than it looks:
- Bonus Bet wagers count for nothing. Only cash wagers move the rollover.
- Pushed cash wagers do not count. A tie that returns the stake leaves the meter where it was.
- Winning bets count at the lesser figure. On a winning cash bet, only the lesser of stake or win goes toward the rollover. A winning favorite therefore contributes its profit, not its stake.
The practical effect: a bettor who backs short-priced favorites to stay safe sees each win credit only the smaller winnings figure, so the $4,400 target takes more volume than the raw number suggests.
Odds limits and bet types
Odds limits steer where a bonus can be used, and on a reload they can cap the upside rather than set a floor. At Prime, Bonus Bets are restricted to +200 or shorter, and straight wagers only, so parlays and longshots are off the table for the bonus portion (as of October 2026).
What a Bonus Bet actually pays
A Bonus Bet returns its winnings without the stake, so its cash value is always below its face value. Caesars states plainly that the stake is not included in winnings from a redeemed Bonus Bet. Prime's worked example puts numbers on it: a $100 free play at -110 returns $90.91 in winnings.
That gap matters when sizing up a reload. A $200 Bonus Bet is not $200 in cash. Its worth is the expected winnings at the price it is used on, before the rollover on the matching cash deposit is even counted.
Expiry and the clock on a reload
Unused Bonus Bets lapse, and the window is short. Caesars sets a default under which Bonus Bets expire 7 days after award unless a promotion specifies otherwise (as of October 2026). Separately, Prime's reload runs on a dated promotion window, so the offer itself ends regardless of how much rollover is left.
Ohio's sportsbook rules require operators to publish the active and expiry date and time of each promotion, so the deadline should always be findable in the terms.
Withdrawing before the rollover is met
At Prime, cashing out early claws back the bonus side. The terms state that on an early withdrawal, bonus funds lost and bonus winnings are both deducted from the cash balance (as of October 2026).
State rules put limits on how far that clawback can reach. Ohio Admin. Code 3775-16-09, effective 2024-10-26, lets a sportsbook attach playthrough to bonus funds but says the operator must not restrict withdrawing their own funds or winnings from wagers placed with those funds. Ohio also requires bonus rules to spell out wagering and redemption requirements, including limitations.
Working out what one is worth
A reload bonus sportsbook offer is worth taking only when the bettor would have wagered the rollover amount anyway. Run the published terms through four questions:
- What deposit earns the full cap? At a 10% match capped at $200, it is $2,000.
- How much cash must be wagered? At 2x deposit plus bonus, $4,400.
- How much of that wagering will count? Pushes and Bonus Bet wagers do not, and winning bets count at the lesser of stake or win.
- What is the Bonus Bet worth in cash? Less than face value, since the stake is not returned, and only if used inside the expiry window.
If the honest answer to the second question is "more than the usual betting volume," the bonus is buying extra wagering, not adding value.
A note on "free" and "risk-free" labels
Marketing words carry legal weight in some states. Under Ohio's rule, any promotion described as free or risk-free cannot require risking own money to use it or withdraw the winnings. A reload that asks for a deposit and a cash rollover is therefore a deposit bonus, whatever the banner calls it.
Quick answers
Are any sportsbooks doing deposit bonuses?
Yes. Prime Sportsbook publishes a daily 10% deposit match paid in Bonus Bets, capped at $200 per deposit, running Aug 1 to Dec 31, 2026 (as of October 2026). Terms such as rollover and odds limits apply.
How does a sportsbook reload bonus work?
The book adds a percentage of a new deposit as Bonus Bets up to a cap, then requires a set amount of cash wagering before withdrawal. At Prime that is 2x deposit plus bonus, so a $2,000 deposit with the full $200 needs $4,400 in cash wagers.
Do Bonus Bet winnings include the stake?
No. Caesars and Prime both pay winnings only. A $100 free play at -110 returns $90.91, and the $100 itself does not come back.
Is there a way to get free money from a sportsbook bonus?
Not without terms. In Ohio, a promotion labeled free or risk-free cannot require the bettor to risk their own money, but a reload bonus requires a deposit and cash wagering, so it is not free money.
